How to Configure My Desktop on Wireless

There are a lot of people who are not computer savvy and who want to know if they can setup up their desktop to have a wireless internet connection. Most of them are even not aware those desktop computers are also capable of having a wireless internet.

Following are the ways to configure desktop on wireless:

Choose all the wireless equipment
First of all what you need to do is, to make sure that you have the equipment you need. You need to choose equipment that supports three different wireless networking technologies like 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. 802.11g is highly recommended because it offers excellent performance and is compatible with almost everything. • Broadband Internet connection and wireless router
• A computer with built-in wireless networking support and a wireless network adapter

Connect your wireless access points to your broadband connection.

Any broadband Internet connection will have a router that allows you to share your Internet connection among the computers on your network. On a wired network, a router shares your Internet connection with your company computers via Ethernet cables. However, on a wireless network the access point broadcasts the signal wirelessly to all the computers instead of hardwiring to your router.

To convert the wired connection into a wireless one, what you can do is to simply connect your wireless access point to your router and it will be ready to share your Internet connection.

Ensure all of your computers are wirelessly equipped.
For your desktop, notebook, and computers to communicate over your wireless network, they will need to support the wireless LAN protocol, which is called Wi-Fi (or 802.11). No a days may of the computers especially business computers has WIFI connection, so they are ready to access your wireless network from anywhere.

If your computer does not have Wi-Fi support, you can quickly and easily install a Wi-Fi adapter. This Adapter cards slip quickly and easily into PCI slots on a desktop case and give your computer wireless access just as if it were built in.

Also it is important that the wireless radios on your computers are compatible with your access points.

After the access point and your computers configured, you can begin sending and receiving information over your wireless network.

Configure SSID on your access points

Wi-Fi access points use a special value called a SSID to distinguish wireless networks from one another. You have to change the values or else it is easy for outsiders to detect and attempt to access a wireless LAN. You should always reset your SSIDs.

Configure your access point and cards for maximum security.
