An Ethernet analyzer comes in many different types intended for various purposes.  When we talk about LAN (Local Area Network) the most common form of technology is an Ethernet network.  Ethernet is a wired network you can find in almost every business setting, whether large or small, and even in some homes were there are multiple computer users sharing one network connection, printer, scanner etc.  This setup has the most advantages and isn't very complicated or expensive to set up.  However most companies need some sort of analyzer to keep the network in control, safe from predators, safe from other technical faults and sometimes even to keep a check on the users using the system.
Each type of Ethernet analyzer has its own uses and benefits.  Different networks have different topologies.  The simplest setup is the bus topology.  However, not many companies find this setup very effective for their use. Most medium to large size businesses deploy a star or mesh topology to get maximum efficiency from their network.
On the other hand another important decision to make when setting up a network is the speed of your topology. The data transfer rate of 10Mbps is called an Ethernet; 100Mbps is called a Fast Ethernet while a 1000Mbps is called a gigabit Ethernet. Most companies go for the gigabit Ethernet.
When setting up a gigabit Ethernet you will need to use different types of analyzer products depending on what your main areas of focus are. A gigabit Ethernet analyzer is available for use on gigabit Ethernet networks.  An Ethernet analyzer is available with both electrical ports and optical ports, depending on the type of wiring you have set up choose the appropriate Ethernet analyzer for your network.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ETHERNET ANALYZERS:

One special type of Ethernet analyzer is meant for the purpose of testing your cabling.  When you first set up a new network you may want to use this type of tester to ensure that all the cabling you did is as per required. There are a range of testing services offered by an analyzer like testing round trip delay, BER testing, performance testing and monitoring network status with the use of package generation, stimulating multi–streams etc depending on the type of tester you purchase. You can check for all these features on the box of the analyzer or contact an expert in to help you choose which one would suit your network the most.

Just a helpful hint: if you have a big business setup and a gigabit Ethernet network setup, then having an Ethernet analyzer will be extremely essential as troubleshooting problems are inevitable.  On the other hand it is often quite necessary to set up certain types of check, which in technical terms can also be called sniffing just to ensure that your company employees are not taking inappropriate advantage of the network.  There is a different kind of gigabit Ethernet analyzer that is specifically meant for the purpose of Ethernet sniffing.  Depending on your list of requirements from your Ethernet analyzer you can then purchase the one that will suit your network the most.
