RAID Data Recovery Guidelines

How is RAID data recovery performed?

RAID or redundant array of inexpensive disks has given users a greater computer storage facility. In RAID, 2 or more disks are made into one logical unit by using either software or hardware. There are various types of RAIDs like the RAID 0, RAID 2, RAID 3, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, etc.

Fault tolerance is something that is required in RAID. If some hardware gets lost, the data should not get destroyed. RAID 0 has no redundancy to support this while the other RAID levels have tried to incorporate this concept with RAID 5 recovery that can cover up for a single disk failure and RAID 6 can deal with two. But when multiple failures occur, RAID data recovery becomes very essential.

RAID data recovery is quite a difficult job mostly requiring technical help. The first thing to determine is the type of the array used in the system. It could be hardware, which consists of external hardware such as a controller and hard disks and in case of any error it generally calls for hard drive recovery. Software RAID is created within the computer’s operating system. Server recovery comes under software RAID rebuild and recovery.

Data Recovery Software

A software recovery can take place even online. The recovery team works on the array from a distant location. Generally, a copy of the array is made at another location from where the data is de-striped from each sector to enable your important file recovery. The final stage of data restore operation involves the extracted files being sent back and saved at the desired location of your computer.

If there is any trouble with hardware RAID, it is generally sent to a laboratory for RAID data recovery.

You should never try recovering the RAID system without having the required technical skill to do it. The server should be immediately shut down if you view any messages such as “RAID configuration error” or find it difficult to access any data.
