VoIP Phone Systems: Making Calls over my computer

VoIP technology or IP Telephony allows anyone with internet connection to make a phone call over their computer, tablets, or pocket PCs.  It's basically exchanging analog data which is converted to digital data, then back to analog again. Phone systems for businesses and even residential settings can avail of this service through the numerous VoIP providers.

In order to make a call from your computer, you need to do is to connect your landline phone into a broadband Internet router. A router is usually made by available by your local VoIP provider. Then, plug the broadband router to your electrical outlet for power. Unlike a DSL connection that doesn't need power; phone systems with IP Telephony need to be plugged in.

An additional cable in needed so you can connect the VoIP phone systems adapter unit. It also depends on how many phone systems you'll be networking together. Next thing to do is to connect a cable from the VoIP broadband router or phone adapter to a hub switch. Finally, plug in your desktop computer or laptop to the hub switch.

PROTOCOLS FOR VOIP

There are actually three main protocols used for IP Telephony but the first 2 are the only ones easy enough to understand. (1) SIP or Session Initiation Protocol and (2) third party protocols like Skype and Cisco. SIP VoIP allows storage of IP addresses so that you can keep track of all your communications. Third party protocols like Skype have their own special features but usually cost more as compared to SIP VoIP.

VoIP phone system providers usually provide both analog and digital mediums namely internet and voice phones. Their packages generally include phone system hardware and installation of voice and data cables. Additional services which might be useful for business IP Telephony is their voice recording feature. This VoIP feature captures email from the network and works with all available email servers running POP3 & SMTP. IP Telephone Systems also stores traditional voice, VoIP and Web interactions like chats and conference calls.

The most notable benefit of this means of communication is cost efficiency.  Bills are cut by a quarter to a half, depending on the number of additional features and protocols set on your phone system. Another notable benefit is it's use of a single network which means less mess and effort in the installation of new hardware. Since VoIP Telephony can also become wireless, WiFi for the workplace or in the house is most possible.

There is also simultaneous functionality with all the connected hardware. So, you can make calls, send an email, and be in a chat conference. VoIP phone systems also make it possible for the users to take the VoIP adapters anywhere, and use their number at any place which offers an Internet connection.

Finally, having a digital phone system will undoubtedly increase productivity for any small or large business.  All you need is a reliable internet connection, VoIP supported phone units, and headphones for making PC calls.
