High Definition Audio Controller Driver
A loss of sound from a high definition audio device controller connected to your PC, or your computer, is a very common problem that people encounter with their PC. If you have encountered this problem, before you conclude that it is related to the high definition audio controller driver, you should make a few checks.
You should first check that all power cables are in good working order, and that connection cables and controllers are properly connected. If they are the way they should be, you should try checking your sound card.
To do this, access your Control Panel and then the System and Security/System section for Windows XP/Vista respectively. Then select Hardware and Device Manager section. Once you have entered your password, you should select the Sound, Video and Games Controller section.
If you have a sound card or sound processor you will be able to clearly see it. A sound card will have to be installed if you do not have one. There could be a problem with your high definition audio controller driver, if a yellow question mark is displayed next to the name of your high definition audio controller driver.
You probably need to update your driver if you have recently changed your operating software, and are experiencing a loss of sound from your PC, or if a high definition audio controller device is not functioning.
When you are having a problem with your high definition audio controller driver some common error messages that will be shown are:
"Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device"
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
"The device cannot start. (Code 10)"
You can update your driver manually. Go to the website of the manufacturer of your sound card. Once there, go to the downloads section and find your product.
You should then download the correct driver. This should be compatible with your computer platform type and operating software as well as the make and model of you sound card.
Alternatively, you can update your drivers automatically by downloading software such as Easy Driver Pro. Whatever method you decide, it is essential that you keep your drivers up to date as out of date drivers cause many common computer problems.
